Production techniques

The process of soda ash production is realized according to ammonia technology by means of interaction of saturated sodium chloride water solution with carbonic acid in the presence of ammonia and subsequent generation of sodium bicarbonate and its calcination. The plant produces soda ash dense grade A and light grade B.

Main raw material for soda ash production:

  • High quality lime stone from  AR Crimea region;
  • Ecologically clean brine from Sivash Lake;
  • Coal – anthracite from Donbass region;
  • Ammonia water, sulphide form chemical-recovery and chemical plants of Ukraine.

The plant has a license to explore the Sivash Lake brine on the territory of AR Crimea and Kherson region on the area of 2000 sq.km.

Natural salt setting is realized in the crystallizing ponds of the salt brine department. Then the salt layer is dissolved and brine proceeds to a depository from where it is pumped out through pipes to soda ash production line.

Brine purification process passes two stages resulting in high level of brine cleanness and low content of insoluble additives in soda ash.

High quality limestone is calcined in calcinating kilns where the limestone is decomposed into carbonic acid and calx.

Saturating the purified brine with carbonic acid using ammonia as a catalytic agent, sodium bicarbonate is produced, and under high temperatures in steam kilns it transforms into sodium carbonate. Quality and reliability of the technological process control is insured by means of digital control system based on microprocessor complexes.

Soda ash dense is manufactured by means of monohydrate method out of soda light. Soda ash dense possesses the same chemical structure as the light one but its density is higher and it is produced in the form of granules. This feature improves consumer quality of soda resulting in higher demand level in the external market.

In 2008 the plant launched production of table salt “Extra”, including iodized with anti-compressed additive. Salt is produced out of sea waters of the Azov Sea by natural evaporation of the latter in Sivash lake deposit. The brine passes two stages of purification from salts of calcium and magnesium and proceeds to the process of evaporation, centrifuging of salt suspension and further drying. Then salt is packed in 25 and 50 kg bags. The product is certificated.

The plant possesses potential to organize production of baking soda, calcium chloride, to develop production capacity and list of products made out of sea salt.

Management and control of technological process is realized by modern controllers made in Germany by Siermens, in Sweden and Switzerland by ABB, in Russia by “Volmag”. The managing system controls current parameters of all production stages. Current indices and malfunctioning are reflected on displays.

Waste from production discharge can be used for manufacturing of poultry fodder additive in the form of calcium compounds, stuffing in automobile industry and construction material.
